LaDarius Owens is a first-year line backer for the Auburn Tigers. He is 6’2 and weighs 242 pounds, and he is originally from Bessemer, Alabama. Jess Lanier was the high school he attended. He played football during his high school years, but he had to sit out his sophomore year because he had transferred schools. His most memorable moment during high school football was when they played Hoover High School. He said he made a sack and he couldn’t hear anything because the crowd was going wild.
He has been an Auburn fan his whole life and the main reason he came to Auburn University is because of his family. Just like any football player, his dream is to go into the NFL. The Human Sciences major says what keeps him going through the day are God and his mom.
Owens and Gene Chizik are really close. Even his mom is close to the coach. His best character trait is his maturity level. He feels a slight pressure about leading the team to a National Championship.
The whole team is like family. They go out and do group activities all the time. Owens says he actually like being the “underdog”. His favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant. He says the SEC quarterback he would like to sack the most would be whoever Alabama’s quarterback is. The University of Alabama tried to recruit him before Auburn did; he knew he wasn’t going to go there though.
According to Owens, he gets the butterflies before every game. During the game, it gets intense because he feels like he is fighting for his family. He listens to Lil’ Boosie before the games. His ritual is to put money in his sock before every game. “The bigger the game, the bigger the bill.” said Owens.
