Murray’s Feature
A first year 6’2 and 225 pound linebacker LaDarius Owens from Bessemer, Alabama puts money in his shoe for good luck before games. At an interview at the Auburn Athletics Complex he said, “the bigger the game the bigger the money.”
Over the years he has become “brothers” with most of the players on the team to build a bond because a lot of people say that they are “one and none, because they lose so many good people”, but in his own words he says, “he likes to be considered as the underdog.”
Owens says that even though they lost a lot of people they didn’t lose talent they just lost experience. He thinks this is the statement year because everybody thinks they are going to lose anyways, so what do they have to lose.
He goes above and beyond to get ready and train for the games, as he warms up for his game days he listens to “Lil Boosie” to get focused and ready.
He was truly a good person to interview. Based on the time that we spent interviewing him he came off as a well-rounded family oriented person.
Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama playing in little leagues and 2 years of high school in addition to being red flagged his first year in college he is really focused and ready to hit the field. He still is in-touch with his fans and is ready to make them proud.
His uncle James Owens was the first African American to play football at Auburn University you would think he has a lot to uphold and standards to keep up but he just wants to make himself, and everyone else proud.
As his future goes on he hopes to continue to build a family here at Auburn University, and dreams of one day of going to the NFL and playing with a team that is close to home. But if that doesn’t work out he wants to become a physical therapist, with a major in kinesiology. His hard work and dedication keeps him moving forward in his life.
