Various members of the Montgomery Advertiser staff talked with high school students today. Their opinion section is mostly things about the editor. Most of the letters to the editors are at least 250 words. Most of the editors cover state, local and national news. They try very hard to have a range of views on the opinion page.
Being reporters, several people won’t give you the information you need. That being said, the reporters have to search for it. Twitter is a good way to keep up with the news. Jill and Matt are the people who keep it up at the Montgomery Advertiser.
Matt is a reporter. He also does entertainment. Matt graduated from Auburn University and interned at the advertiser too. His working hours are noon to 8 p.m. He said for anyone wanting to be a reporter, they should definitely not procrastinate.
Amanda is a photographer. She is originally from Ohio and started out as an intern. Photographers cover a lot of parades. Kids also make good pictures because they are so energetic. They usually shoot pictures at tax day every year. The lighting is good for taking pictures there. Photographers have to set up galleries. The minimum of their galley is 15 to 30 photos. The tornado that hit on April 27 was her biggest story. She said it was very emotional going out there and seeing a several amount of people who lost their house.
Rick said all the rumors saying that newspapers are dying are not true. There are several job opportunities out there. Being an intern is a good way to start out. That way you have an experience of how it is. Newspapers will be here for a while.
