How to take your Student Publications to the next level
On June 22, 2011 Professor Nan Fairley did a seminar with the High School Journalist Student about how to take your student publication to the next level.
There are a lot of ways she told us we could do this. As I set in class and took notes, she gave us books, websites, and organizations to go to talk to about improving your student publication.
There are a lot of steps you have to complete the next level. Such as; you have to look at the good sides and the bad sides about your student publication.
The bad side is the deadlines, getting people involved, ad’s, conversions, legal/ethical issues, and good content.
The good side is the contest, awards, information you give out, the online edition and the ad’s that sale. These steps will help me improve my student publication.
Among all the information she gave us in this seminar, I took more information about organizing a school newspaper.
Professor Fairley gave us information like mission statements, editorial checklists, meeting challenges, min. standards, max. resources, staff jobs description, agreements, policies, staff manuals, content/editorial policies, organization, guess writers, student voices, and questions.
All of these tips are suppose to help organize a school newspaper or publication and improve it or make it better.
Professor Fairley gave us very good information about taking out student publications to the next level. I think even with the publication that we already have we can totally make them better based on the information we were giving on today.
Some of the information will help more then the other but it all will be useful if we use if in the right way and to the best of its advantage.
